Weather took a turn for the worse, and I didn't have a jacket on. Headed back to the apartment, and grabbed a shot of the Hartford insurance building on my way by. You can see that the nice blue sky and sunshine have quickly been replaced by low bands of clouds. Brrr - it got much colder very quickly....

A little closer view of the State Palace, umm, State Capitol building, I mean.

Another view of the State Capitol. Think I'll try a little closer shot next.

And swinging the camera to the right, you get a view of the state palace, er, I mean capitol building....

Looking towards downtown - you can see the gold building and the Travelers tower off in the distance.
Posted by: Bob

Another grand building along the way - the Hartford Fire Insurance Company building. I'm nearly at the corner of Asylum and Farmington Avenues - maybe 10 minutes worth of walking from the apartment...

One of several other entrances. This is really more of a compound than a single building.

The front door.

...So here's the top 1/2 including the clock tower.
Posted by: Bob

Can't squeeze the whole thing into a single shot....

This is one of the sights to be seen along the way - it's maybe three blocks towards downtown from the apartment.

After two weeks of rain, the sun came out on Sunday for a while. Took the opportunity to head towards downtown on a walk. Most everything here is still green, but there are little splashes of fall color here and there amongst the foliage.

Continued on inside to grab some lunch - here is a shot of a small part of the food court inside one of the State House Square buildings.

Looking back at the Travelers building I work in from the little bus-pass stand in State House Square.
Posted by: Bob

Looking down from the Plaza near the Travellers building towards the State House Square area. Headed over to the little stand that you can see (just behind the silver truck in the middle of the picture) to buy a bus pass....

It's been raining here for two weeks now, so my blogging has been extremely, well, non-existant since Serenity day. Here's River from the movie, too bad it's doing so poorly at the box office...

Serenity Day! Finally! Show Time. Not a bad theater - but I was a little disappointed by the small size of the screen they showed it on. Ahh well.

I think that maybe I'll just go see it again next weekend, if it's still playing. (There were less than 40 people in the theater at the opening show - hope it lasts...)

Wonder if the DVD will be out in time for Christmas...

The mall is quite kid-friendly. There are a number of cordoned off play areas for them.

Serenity Day! Lunch! Yummmm - a Philly Cheese Steak Deluxe ! It was OK - but I should probably have skipped the tomatoes and lettuce (the deluxe part). It would have been more like a "real" Philly....

I found the food court, which had an interesting feature at the far end of it - a full-sized Merry-Go-Round for the kids.

Finally made it over to Buckland Hills Mall. It's a pretty big place, with all the usual stores you'd expect to find in a mall. You couldn't tell by walking around if you were in Connecticut or Utah (except maybe by the absence of Mrs. Fields Cookies). I took this from the second floor of the mall, in case you couldn't tell...

Same as previous shot, but I hit the Zoom button.
Posted by: Bob

Sams is up on a hill, too - it looks down on Borders Bookstore (barely seen on the right) and Pier 1 Imports (middle of picture)...
Posted by: Bob

Well - on the next hill over from the theater there's a Sams - might as well make a stop there...
Posted by: Bob

Another shot from the same place - zoomed in a little on what appears to be a cemetary over across the highway.
Posted by: Bob

Walked over to the edge of the parking lot - the theater is up on a bit of a hill - here is some shot from up there.
Posted by: Bob

Serenity Day! Well, looks like I've got about three hours to kill - how about a picture of the theater from a little further back?
Posted by: Bob

Serenity Day - at the theater at 10:00. Doesn't seem to be anyone around. ( I found out later that the theater doesn't open until 12:00, and the first Serentity show is at 1:40)
Posted by: Bob

Made it to the theater by 10:00 - got a great parking place, too....
Posted by: Bob

Serenity Day! A quick stop for a bagel with Jalepeno Cream Cheese and a small coffee. This is about a mile in the wrong direction, but it's early - I'll still make it to the theater by 10:00...

Some of the lunch time chess players - an after-lunch activity I participate in from time to time. There are usually a few games of Bridge going at some of the other tables, too..
Posted by: Bob

Part of the cefeteria at Travelers. The picture shows most of the soup and salad bar area and the Saute and Italian Specialty area back behind them. This doesn't cover even 1/4 of the whole thing - it's pretty big...
